The INCI name is an internationally accepted system name for the identification of cosmetic ingredients. The name is reviewed and assigned by the International Nomenclature Committee, INC., and approved by the Personal Care Products Council, Inc. PCPC) in the International Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary and Handbook, available through the online database wINCI.

Anhui Newman Fine Chemical Co., LTD., as the top leading manufacturer of Carbomer and acrylates copolymer, the name of our series of products carbomer is derived from the INCI name CARBOMER (Carbomer), such as our traditional NM-Carbomer 981,941,960, etc. From the INCI name Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Cross polymer NM-Carbomer 20,21,1382, TR-1, etc. The trade name of our series of products PVP come from INCI name PVP (Polyvinyl pyrrolidone), such as NM-PVPk30, K90, etc.

In addition, the INCI name is based on the chemical structure of the ingredients, not on the purity or molecular weight grade. In some cases, different levels or types of the same ingredient may have the same INCI name. Despite having the same INCI name, they may cover products with different attributes or physical characteristics, so they should not be assumed to be interchangeable.

For example, NM-Carbomer 20,21, TR-1, TR-2 with INCI name Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Cross polymer, but there are great commonality and difference between them.

1)Commonality: All are providing moderate-to high viscosity with smooth flow properties. They have higher electrolyte tolerance and handle a higher level of surfactant actives.

2)Differences: Due to the different crosslinking degree of its chemical structure and the different types of C10-30 acrylates, Carbomer 20 neutralized solution viscosity is less than NM-Carbomer 21.  TR-1 and TR-2 are non-ethoxylated polymer designed to create stable and mild oil-in-water emulsions at low use level, have great choice for use in many skin care formulations. NM-Carbomer TR-1 and TR-2 as emulsifier should be used with carbomers to provide greater thickening properties where higher viscosity emulsions are required.

The INCI name is used in a wide range of scenarios and has a high degree of recognition and acceptance internationally. At present, it has been recognized by most countries and absorbed as the acceptable way of naming cosmetics in their own countries/regions. For example:

• China

For the standard Chinese names and INCI names of ingredients listed in the List of Used Cosmetic Ingredients (IECIC), refer to the International Dictionary and Manual of Cosmetic Ingredients (2018 edition) compiled by PCPC.

• European Union

According to EU Regulation on Cosmetics (EC) No 1223/2009 issued by the European Parliament and the Council, the list of product ingredients included in cosmetics labels should use the generic ingredient names (including INCI names) from the CosIng database.

• USA

According to 21CFR cosmetic labeling, INCI name in the International Dictionary and Manual of Cosmetic Ingredients compiled by PCPC should be preferred if there is no specified name for cosmetic ingredients.
